The Florida Maternal Mortality Review Committee (Florida MMRC),formerly known as thePregnancy-Associated Mortality Review (PAMR),first convened in 1996. The committee currently has 25 members, meets quarterly, and reviews all pregnancy-related cases as well as a sample of pregnancy-associated cases. In 2021, cases from 2020 were reviewed. Florida had 209,645 live births and 44 pregnancy-related deaths. The Florida MMRCmission is to increase awareness of the issues surrounding pregnancy-related deaths and to promote change among individuals, communities, and health care systems in order to reduce the number of deaths.

Florida Success Story: Initiatives to Address Preventable Postpartum Hemorrhage Mortality (Apr 2022)

Two initiatives were implemented to address preventable mortality related to postpartum hemorrhage. Between 2010 and 2019, the pregnancy-related mortality ratio due to hemorrhage declined from a rolling three-year average of 3.4 hemorrhage deaths per 100,000 live births in 2010-2012 to 2.1 deaths in 2017-2019.
