Cecil Hammer Jr

Cecil Hammer, Jr., age 68, of Brenham and the husband of Lisa Hammer passed away on June 4, 2024 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Cecil was born in Brenham, Texas on January 1, 1956 to Cecil and Florence Hammer (Malinowski). He was a 1974 graduate of Brenham High School. During his High School days, he worked at Brenham airport, Western Auto and Gibson’s. He continued his career with Southwestern Bell in Brenham, starting as a Telephone Operator and transferring to be a Cable Splicer. He retired from AT&T after 36 years. Cecil met the love of his life on a blind date at the Angleton County Fair in September of 1977. They married on July 18, 1980 in Houston, Texas. Cecil was a lifelong member of Brenham’s First Baptist Church, where he volunteered many of his hours working in the sound booth with the Audio/Visual Department. He also volunteered many hours to First Baptist Church School working on the computers and any issues with the internet. Cecil was a great man, husband, father and Papaw to Kinsley. He loved spending time with his daughter, Staci, and his son, Kevin. He enjoyed working on various projects. You could find him most days at his place in the country, gardening, fixing cars, and watching the sunset with his wife. His greatest joy was being a Papaw to his granddaughter, Kinsley. He loved watching her play volleyball and never missed a game. He loved his family and will be greatly missed. Cecil is survived by his wife, Lisa Hammer; daughter, Staci Dakus and husband Jon, son Kevin Hammer and Camden. Grandchild Kinsley Dakus. Sisters, Cindy Foerster and husband Rodney, Mary Ann Jackson; brother, Bobby Hammer and wife Jeannie. He is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Florence Hammer. Brother-in-law, Les Jackson. Serving as pallbearers for Cecil are Kevin Hammer, Jon Dakus, Rodney Foerster and Dr. Leo Pena. Donald Ray Smith

Donald Ray Smith of Brenham, Texas graduated into his heavenly home on June 5, 2024, at his Washington County Texas home surrounded by his family. After a fifteen-year battle with COPD, he learned in early Spring 2024 of a stage 4 melanoma that hindered his breathing the last few weeks of life. Recently in an interview with one of the family, he expressed his greatest achievements were his family, his airline career and his home building projects. Upon graduating from Eastern New Mexico University in May 1964 with a Bachelor of Arts from the Portales College of Business in Marketing and following a marriage to his college sweetheart and heart throb Herma Loy Elliott Smith in the same year, Don obtained an airplane pilot's license after which he joined the pilot personnel of Eastern Airlines. In 1989, he retired from a long career at EAL only flying for a few private assignments afterwards. Don found the gorgeous landscapes of Washington County Texas to establish his family home and remodel an old farmhouse where he has lived for several decades. Born in a hospital in Hobbs, New Mexico on September 25, 1939, Don grew up in the company town of Oil Center, NM and attended public schools in Eunice, NM. As a graduate of Eunice High School, Don participated in the sports of Track and Football all four years, and in his senior year was Associated Press All-State Football, voted The Most Athletic, a Class Favorite, and Who's Who. Don also participated in the Senior and Junior class plays, played the trumpet in Band and Brass Ensemble, and he was a Football Escort his Junior and Senior year. His mother wanted her children to attend college, and she made sure the youngest of her four kids matriculated successfully onto and through Eastern New Mexico University. Don expressed his favorite scripture as John 3:16. As a child of nine years old, he walked the aisle of the First Baptist Church of Eunice, New Mexico with his mother in 1948. She moved her faith from the Methodist church to join her youngest son in the Baptist church tradition. As an adult, Don took his faith honestly, humbly, and quietly, modeling his faithfulness to the local church of First Baptist Church of Brenham, Texas. As a deacon, as parental leaders to his two oldest children in the Youth Sunday School class, Don and his wife served as Directors, both singing in the church choir for a season and serving as a building handyman before the church hired on additional personnel. Don modeled a solid faith and repentance to his God of the Bible and his wife, his children and his grandchildren by discussing to each the importance of walking in wisdom and fear of the Lord as the true path to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He helped guide all his children to attend Brenham Public Schools, public colleges and universities like Blinn College, Texas A&M University, Texas Women's University, and North Texas University as he was a product of the public schools of New Mexico where he believed that honored traditions of knowing a wide variety of people allow for you to serve people in your future professional careers. He understood the opportunities that the systems afforded he and his family as Don found great pride as father and grandfather to see his children excel in the values he held dear: faith, family, country, and education for the next generation. Don's favorite saying is: "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Don found great delight working with his hands whether it be mechanical, woodworking, any odd job around the house as he had a great teacher from his late father who helped him add several rooms and a bathroom in a "do-it-yourself" project on their company two bedroom and one bath family home in Eunice, New Mexico; then, his late father helped him "do-it-yourself" by building his own family a home in Newnan, Georgia which he found great pride in before a career move to Houston, Texas. Preferring the country landscapes of bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush flowers, Don and Herma Loy determined on buying and remodeling an old family farmhouse outside the Houston region in 1978 in historic Brenham, Washington County, the Birthplace of Texas. Donald Ray Smith is a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Brenham, Texas, and a local supporter of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department of Brenham, a former member of the Christian Airline Pilots Association, and as a college man, a member of Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity, Epsilon Eta Chapter. Donald Ray Smith leaves behind Herma Loy Elliott Smith, his loving and faithful wife of sixty years, who celebrated a diamond anniversary of sixty years with him from March 30, 2024 to March 30, 1964. He also leaves behind his siblings: Irvin Smith and Mary Nell Smith Spangler both of Artesia, New Mexico; his adult children: Lisa Dawn Smith; Parker Smith and wife Carmel Smith; Traci Smith Johnson; Shay and husband Lowell Ballew; along with his nine-grandchildren: Preston Ray Smith, Caleb Smith, Rhys Johnson, Katyana Johnson, Megan Johnson, Aidan Ballew, Liam Ballew and wife Eileen, Jude Ballew, and Olivia Ballew. Also, he leaves behind nieces and nephews: Darla Smith Jones, David Smith, Ronald Spangler, Chrissy Spangler Dobson, Tina Marie Smith Wurgler, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents the late Alvin Roy Smith and the late Mary Magdalene Purtell Smith; his sibling the late Alvin Royce Smith (U.S. Navy Sonarman on the USS Gudgeon Submarine) of Prescott, AZ; his late sister-in-law Darlene Smith of Artesia, NM; his late niece Mary Kay Spangler Wilson of Arlington, TX; his late nephew Daryl Smith (Retired U.S. Army Career Military Intelligence) and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. Plans are set to honor Donald Ray Smith for Visitation on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 5:30 P.M. - 7:30 P.M., at Memorial Oaks Chapel, Brenham, Texas, and a funeral service on Saturday, 10:30 A.M. at the old building for First Baptist Church at 304 North Market Street, Brenham, Texas a brief gravesite service will follow and a reception for the family and friends hosted by the Agape Lifers Sunday School class. Verlin Ann (Winkelmann) Wise

Verlin Ann (Winkelmann) Wise, 86, of Brenham passed peacefully in her sleep the morning of Friday, June 7, 2024. Verlin was born December 18, 1938 in Brenham, Texas to Albert F. and Katie (Kieke) Winkelmann. As a child, she attended Pleasant Hill School and years later graduated from Brenham High School. Verlin was very proud of her career in the fine paper industry where she spent over 20 years. She especially enjoyed traveling for her work. During this time, she had many career titles but being a mother to her children was her most cherished role. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed watching sports, specifically the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Eagles. She also loved adding to her frog collection and taking care of her lawn. Verlin wanted to be known for “doing it her way”. Preceding her in death are her parents; sister Irene Winkelmann Lueckemeyer; brothers-in-law Fred Lueckemeyer, Jr. and Dennis E. Sefcik. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Susan Wise of Miami, Florida; her son Wade Wise of Apple Valley, California; sister Ruth Winkelmann Sefcik of Caldwell, Texas; and special family friends Mary Mabry and Dodi Mehr of Brenham, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church located 2310 Airline Drive, Brenham, TX with the Rev. Stephen F. Whaley officiating. Eugene (Gene) Krenek

Eugene (Gene) Krenek was born to Henry and Mary Hajek Krenek on July 16, 1934, in Industry, Texas. Eugene was employed by the Bellville School District for 25 years as the Transportation Director and Bus Mechanic. He also worked for Priesmeyer Brothers. All of his life, he was a part-time mechanic and rancher. Eugene loved to hunt and fish. He loved to fix cars/trucks, to do woodwork, and to drive his John Deere tractor. Eugene loved his little dog, Prissy. Every morning, he would take her out in his four-wheeler. He is survived by his wife Evelyn Schulz Krenek. Eugene married Evelyn on January 20, 1957, at Welcome Lutheran Church. He made his home in Bellville, Texas where he was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Eugene is survived by his wife of 67 years, Evelyn, nieces: Mary Gutierrez and husband David, Bobbie Perez and husband John, Rosemary Knebel and husband Gary; nephews: Samuel Susen and wife Gina, and Franklin Mark Susen. He is also survived by great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by parents Henry and Mary Krenek, father-in-law and mother-in-law Robert and Bertha Schulz, brother Clement Krenek, sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Franklin Susen, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Theodore and Lorene Hahn, and Raymond and Esther Klump, nephews Jerry and Carl Edward Klump. Dale Jon Green

Dale Jon Green, age 86 of Brenham, Texas peacefully passed away May 31, 2024. Dale was born May 9, 1938 to Daniel and Mary Green of Bradford County, Towanda, Pennsylvania. Dale graduated from Towanda High School. Prior to moving to Brenham in the late 90’s, Dale called both Maine and Florida home. One of Dale’s greatest prides was his restaurant named “The Village Eat’n & Meet’n Place”, located on Sebago Lake in Maine. Dale was an avid NASCAR and specifically a Dale Earnhardt fan – even working at the Daytona International Speedway for a time in his life. He enjoyed going camping and boating whenever he had a chance. He was a fantastic slalom water skier and worked as a water ski instructor while living in Florida, passing this passion down to his son Ryan. While in Texas, he continued to assist whoever wanted to learn while boating on Lake Somerville. Dale was a known fixture at Max’s Donuts for 22 years leading to the formation of close ties with the community of Brenham. He also was a part of the Brenham’s Police Department’s “Citizen’s on Patrol” for 15 years and a Mason belonging to Brenham’s Graham Lodge No. 20. Dale is preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Mary Green, brother James Edgar Green, brothers-in-law Lee Johnson and Clem Baranowski. Dale is survived by partner Dorothy Antkowiak; sons Ryan Antkowiak and wife Fiona, Bryan Green and wife Pamela, and Kurt Green; brother Ronald “Ron” Green and wife Jenny of Reading, PA; sister Maryann Johnson of Bella Vista, AR; sisters-in-law Marie and Don Prenzler, Patricia and Keith Kuhlmann; brother-in-law Max Baranowski and Jeanette; several nieces and nephews; special friends Ou (Scott) and Kim Taing, and the Max Donuts family. A memorial service will be Friday, June 14, 2024 beginning at 11:00am at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Reverend Charles Parnell will be leading the service. Karen Riedel Campbell

Karen Riedel Campbell passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024 with her husband by her side. She was 78 years old. Born in Galveston, Texas to Leo A Riedel and Gertrude Russey Riedel on June 26,1945. Karen grew up in LaMarque, Texas, graduating from LaMarque High School in 1964. She was an All-State clarinet player, twirler, and drum major for the LaMarque High Tiger Band. After high school she went to The University of Houston where she played clarinet for the U of H Band and where she met the love of her life, Larry Campbell. They were married on August 7, 1965, beginning their 59-year journey together. Larry graduated from the University of Houston while Karen earned her P.H.T. (“Put Hubby Through College”). Larry became a band director, with jobs carrying the newlyweds first to Amarillo, then Galveston, back to the Houston area, then finally Larry became the band director for Blinn college in Brenham where they found their home together for 50 years and raised their sons: Russell, Jeff, and Steve. When the boys were all grown, Karen became a teacher, first at the local Montessori School, then at the Methodist Pre-school where she was affectionately known as Miss Karen. Karen loved working with small children and carried stories from those times with her for the rest of her life. Karen was called Memaw by her 5 grandchildren, whom she adored and loved to visit with every chance she got. She is preceded in death by her mother and father, Leo and Gertrude Riedel and her brother, Lee. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Larry, her sons Russell (wife Ami), Jeff, and Steve (wife Michelle), her sister, Kathy Landrum, and her 5 grandchildren – Jasper, Aelish, Violet, Rowen, and Leo Campbell. She also leaves behind her nieces Lauren Arnold (husband Ryan) and Courtney Erwin (husband Patrick), great nephews Landon, Will, and Sawyer, and several cousins. Fred (Fritzie) Schwartz, Jr.

Fred (Fritzie) Schwartz, Jr passed away on Sunday, June 2 at the age of 89. He was born on November 8,1934 to parents Fred Sr and Rosie Goeke Schwartz. He was baptized on December 9,1934 and confirmed on April 10, 1949. He was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, William Penn, wherehe served in various offices during the course of his life. On June 16,1963, Fred was united in marriage to Jo Ann Schoenemann at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Fred graduated from Brenham High School in 1953 and Blinn College in 1955. He bravely served in the United States Army from 1955-1957, stationed in Germany. Upon his return Fred started a feed milling company on the family ranch that would later become S&H Agri-Service in Brenham. He continued as co-owner of this business until his retirement in 1992. Fred continued his passion and life work as a full-time rancher on his favorite place on earth, the 5^th generation family ranch, alongside his son, Jeff, and later joined by his grandson, Logan. Fred’s biggest desire was for “the cows to do good and the grass to be green”. Fritzie was often known for his “shenanigans”, that have made the best stories, his wicked sense of humor, boisterous laugh, and unique perspective on life. He often sported his trademark grin with a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He was the best Papa to his grandchildren and told anyone who would listen of their accomplishments, big and small. Fred was also a lover of all food and could always be found with his favorite candy bar, Snickers. Fred is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 61 years, Jo Ann, son and daughter-in-law Jeffery Scott and Sharon Schwartz and daughter Amy Lynn Jeter. He was Papa to his precious grandchildren Hanna Rose Glenz and husband Trevor, Logan Scott Schwartz and special friend Kaylie Zapalac and Allison Paige Jeter. Also surviving are brother-in-law and sister-in-law Glenn and Betty Brenner, and brother-in-law James Schoenemann. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law Herbert and Rosa Schoenemann; sisters and brothers-in-law Gertie and Otto Kramer, Dorothy Ann and Raymond Gaskamp; and Eleanor Pearl and Melvin Gaskamp. Visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel, Thursday, June 6, 2024 and Friday, June 7, 2024 from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm with family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Funeral service will be at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn, officiated by Pastor Kelly Krieg, at 11:00 am on Saturday June 8, 2024 with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Ross E. Nutt

Ross Everett Nutt passed away suddenly at his home in Brenham, Texas on May 24, 2024 at the age of 61. Ross was born July 27, 1962 in Washington County, Texas. He was one of five children born to James and Willie Mae Nutt. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brenham. He attended Brenham schools. Ross was an avid wildlife hunter. Some of his favorite places to hunt were Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas. He also spent many years guiding in Mexico. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, James and Willie Mae Nutt; daughter Halley. Survivors include his companion, Maria; children Dalton and Michaela; grandchildren Chastity and Cereniddy; siblings Bill and wife Elizabeth, Neil, Rona, and Boyd and wife Joy, with numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation for Ross will be held Monday, June 10, 2024 at Brenham Memorial Chapel from 8:00am until 7:00pm with family present from 5:00 until 7:00pm. Crispin Caye Martin

Crispin Caye Martin 63 of Pearland, TX, passed to her spiritual life on May 28, 2024. She was born January 29, 1961 to Elmer and Mary Ann Faykus in Houston, TX. Crispin graduated from Brenham High School in 1979, Blinn College in 1981, and Sam Houston State University in 1984 with a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology. Crispin was a certified Medical Technologist and worked at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX for 34 years in the Pathology department. Crispin married Gary John Martin on October 8, 1994 making their home in Pearland, TX. Crispin was a devout Catholic and family was very important to her. She was loved by family, friends and everyone she met. She enjoyed planning holiday gatherings and spending time with loved ones. She was a gourmet cook and grew her own herbs, and vegetables, which she used in her cooking. Among her favorite things to make were; Goulash, Fig Jelly, Pickles, and Fudge. She loved to garden and plant flowers with bright colors. Crispin enjoyed traveling and exploring new places with family and friends. She loved visiting quiet peaceful countryside’s and different churches. She enjoyed going to seasonal festivals where she would buy gifts for friends and loved ones. Crispin had a love for people. She dressed in bright colors, with fuchsia and purple being her favorite. Bluebonnets and Blue Bell ice cream were among the things that made her happy. Crispin was preceded in death by her father Elmer Faykus. Surviving family includes: her husband, Gary Martin; son, William Martin; mother, Mary Ann Faykus; sister and brother-in-law, Misti and Don Orr; brother and sister-in-law, Cass and Donna Faykus; nieces and nephews, Alyssa Faykus, Tyler and wife Gianna, and Elijah and Genevieve Faykus; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Margaret Martin; brother-in-law, Paul and wife Sylvia Martin; nephews, Matthew, Chrstopher and Grayson Martin. Memorials may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD). Cecelia Fisk

Cecelia Fisk, age 96, passed May 26, 2024 at Village Green Memory Care in Cypress, Texas. Mrs. Fisk was born August16, 1927 in Washington County to Pete and Eva Kenjura. On May 24, 1947 she married Arthur Lee Fisk in Brenham. She retired from Brentex Mills in Brenham after 47 years. She loved her flowers, gardening work, dancing, and a good cold beer. Mrs. Fisk leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love. She was an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her faith in God gave her the strength to overcome her own life’s challenges, while giving comfort and understanding to others. Mrs. Fisk is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Eva Kenjura, husband Arthur Lee Fisk, grandson Justin Fisk, brother Arthur Lee Kenjura, sisters Barbara Baker, Albina (Beanie) Binford, Iren Riley, and Fran Langen. Owen Henry Zeiss

Owen Henry Zeiss, the husband of Joan Schmid Zeiss was born in Brenham on November 27, 1928 to Gladys Maye Whitmore Zeiss and William Henry Zeiss. He passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at the age of 95. Owen, better known as “Bubba”, had a knowledge of Brenham history and loved to share it with everyone. He grew up on Main Street and had many escapades as a youngster when times were safe, and everyone looked out for each other. Many lifelong friendships started on the streets of downtown Brenham. Many stories were told of those times. Some of that time was spent with his grandfather, Isaac Whitmore who taught Bubba the art of monumental masonry. They created, installed, and repaired many of the early tombstones at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Owen graduated from Brenham High School, Blinn College, and Sam Houston State Teachers College with a B.S. in Agri Education. He taught Ag for a number of years. He was engaged in agriculture his whole life working on the land owned by the Zeiss family since1885, operating Zeiss and Kuecker Dairy. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Owen was the eighth Eagle Scout in Washington County, of which he was very proud. He enjoyed many hobbies, including water sports, hunting, and reading, but wine making, and stained-glass art were his favorites. Owen married his high school sweetheart, Joan Schmid. They were married 72 years. They had two children, Jomaye Zeiss Schmidt and Jeffrey Owen Zeiss. Owen was very active at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church as a member since 1951. The church was his life, doing volunteer work and holding most elected positions numerous times. He was most proud of the countless hours he spent in support and the building of St. Peter’s at its current location and of his participation in the design and building of the Columbarium. Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and William “Billy” Zeiss; mother and father-in-law, Joe and Tracy Schmid; brother and sister-in-law, William E. and Patsy Zeiss; brother-in-law, Wilfred Kuecker; sisters-in-law and brothers- in-law, Tanya Golibart McClendon and Bill Golibart; and Rozaine Weiss; daughter-in-law Catherine Moran Zeiss; and special friend Marice Wills. Survivors are his wife, Joan Schmid Zeiss, daughter and son-in-law Jomaye and Eddie Schmidt, son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Betsy Zeiss, sister, Barbara Kuecker. Grandchildren, Blair Schmidt, and Brenna and Russ McKinley. Also, Heidi and Jason Jaster, Wyatt and Tracy Matthies, Megan and Jody Campbell, and Lance Matthies. Great grandchildren, Destiny, Rusty and Bella McKinley, Saeger Jaster, Isaac and Everleigh Matthies, Delton and Auggie Campbell. Additionally, special friends Claude and Mary Mabry. A Memorial Service is planned for Thursday, June 13, 2024, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church at 11:00 am. Private family comital of ashes in the Columbarium at the church will take place immediately after the service. Doris Ann Pace

Doris Ann Pace, 87 of Brenham, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024 surrounded by her family. Doris was born June 20, 1936 to Ben and Dora (Riechers) Wieghat in Independence, Texas. She graduated from Lamar Consolidated in Rosenberg, Texas. She married Rev. Marlin Dale Pace on November 18, 1960 in Rosenberg, Texas. Doris worked as a secretary for Brenham Independent Schools and faithfully supported her husband’s ministry. She would often teach children’s Sunday School and serve in the church’s nursery, where she had a knack for making sure each child felt important and loved. She enjoyed country drives and watching beautiful sunsets, which were best followed by a bowl of Blue Bell ice cream. Working crossword puzzles and playing games on the computer with her family was a favorite past-time. She also enjoyed tending her plants and maybe most of all singing. Doris loved her family dearly and cherished time spent with them. Doris was preceded in death by parents; husband; infant son Randal Pace; brothers Floyd Wieghat, Leroy Wieghat, Woodrow Wieghat, Gary Wieghat; sisters Kathy Wieghat and Gerdine Joyce O’neal. Neil Wayne Maurer

Neil Wayne Maurer, 60, of Brenham passed away early in May 2024. Neil was born January 13, 1964 to Melvin H. and Evelyn F. (Herrmann) Maurer in Brenham, TX. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville in Brenham, TX. Minus a brief stay in Austin while in his 20s, Brenham was his home. Neil was a graduate of Brenham High School. He attended courses of interest at Blinn College and Texas A&M. He was a self-taught craftsman in areas that included masonry, carpentry, painting, and clay and ceramic art. Neil built his own home on several secluded acres and then built an additional home on the same property. At the time of his death, he enjoyed the use of both homes for gardening, crafts and enjoyment of the outdoors. He was a self-taught guitarist and penciled some of his own lyrics and music and on occasion, he would send a voicemail that was just him playing guitar. He loved art and was a collector of local artists’ paintings and crafts. Neil was a kind and caring person who often helped others in need of a hand up. Neil is survived by his daughter, Meghan Elise Maurer, and brothers and sisters-in-law Jimmie and Barbara Maurer, Rodney and Jerri Maurer, and Douglas and Dorothy Maurer; also many nieces and nephews. Neil enjoyed and spent time with his many friends and business associates who will miss shared time with him. Priscella Ann Brazzel

Priscella Ann (Follmar) Brazzel, 78, passed away May 20, 2024, in Brenham, TX. Ann was born on January 27, 1946, in El Paso, TX to Clarance E. (“Buster”) and Margaret (Davis) Follmar. Ann spent her early life in Houston, TX and graduated from Marian High School in 1965. She was united in marriage to Thomas Joseph Brazzel on May 20, 2000 in Katy TX. Ann is survived by her husband, daughter Paige Yount and husband Dennis and grandson Will, stepson Neil and wife Karla Brazzel, step grandchildren Lacey, Hank and Sage Marie and stepson Matthew and wife Kristin and step grandchildren Molly, Cole and Emma and numerous cousins and friends. Ann lived the majority of her adult life in Brenham, TX. Ann was active in the Republican Party of Washington County, having served as a precinct chairperson for many years. She was a past president of the Republican Club of Washington County and active member of the Washington County Republican Women Club. Keith Glenn Twiggs

Keith Glenn Twiggs was born on November 18, 1923, to Glenn and Dollie Twiggs in Augusta, Kansas. After 100 years of living well on this earth, he graduated to his heavenly home on May 16, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, six sisters and brothers-in-law, his wife of 75 years, Elizabeth, his daughter and son-in-law, Dollie and Dick Waters, his son-in-law, Bobby Mills, his grandson, Keith Mann, his great-granddaughters, Dianna Mann and Amanda Clark, and many relatives and friends. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Bob Mann Sr.; daughter, Oma Mills; granddaughter, Jenny Mills; grandsons Ed Mann and wife, Karen, and Bob Mann Jr. and wife, Connie; great-grandsons E.J. Mann, Steven Mann, Chris Kaloderovic and Steve Clark; great-granddaughter, Lacey Mann, great-great-grandchildren, Alexis, Addie, Cade, Charles, Connor, and Calista; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Keith was born in Kansas, grew up in Oklahoma, raised his family in California, and retired in Brenham, Texas. He grew up in a very small house with his parents and six sisters, so his bedroom was the front porch. Sometime during his childhood their house burned down, and his dad ran back in to save his prized possession - the sousaphone. His dad’s love of music birthed the same love in Keith, and he enjoyed many years in the school band as a trombone player. Keith’s love of music continued all the days of his life, his favorites being Dixieland jazz and gospel. He could often be heard singing or whistling “Blessed Assurance” and “How Great Thou Art” as he went about his daily work or while baking THE best pecan pie for Thanksgiving. When he was only 11 years old, he met the love of his life, Elizabeth. After serving time in the Army Air Corps as a plane mechanic during WWII, they married on April 15, 1947 and raised three daughters in Crestline, CA. He held several jobs in California including driving logging and cement trucks up and down mountain roads, laying pavement, construction, and was even a volunteer firefighter. In 1973, when Keith was 50 years old, he and Elizabeth moved to Brenham, Texas, to open a Sonic Drive-In franchise, a business his brother-in-law, Troy Smith, started in Oklahoma. Thanks to this later-in-life risk, he set his family up for success, which was always his number one goal in life - to take care of his family. For many years he ran the store, morning and night, and opened several other stores in nearby Texas cities. He managed with high expectations, and many respected him by devoting decades of work to the successful drive in. Once establishing life in Brenham, Keith got involved in everything. He and Elizabeth attended First Baptist Church in Brenham for several decades, where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and joined the layman's prayer breakfast group regularly. Among many participations, he was a Mason with the Grand Lodge of Texas' Graham Lodge No. 20, a Shriner with the Brenham Shrine Club of the Arabian Temple, an active rotarian with the Rotary Club of Washington County, a proud member of the Scottish Rite Club, American Legion, 100 Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Citizens on Patrol Academy Alumni Association. Keith contributed his time and money to many projects within these clubs, and even volunteered at the Brenham Police Department as chief paper filer and guest greeter. Keith was also integral in starting Faith Mission in Brenham, and gave generously to many organizations to construct buildings, implement programs, and help students attend Blinn College. Keith never met a stranger, loved to tell a good joke, and was often quick to make up a pun in the middle of conversation. When he came up with a good one, in his opinion, a little grin would grow on his face until you finally just had to laugh with him. He almost always knew the right thing to do, or the right person to talk to. He strongly believed the saying, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know,” and he lived that out by making sure he knew everyone, including their families and every place they lived and worked. He didn’t use this information just for his gain, though. He was genuine in his desire to know people and find ways he might be able to help them. He talked to everyone, all over town, and would often make up a reason to go to the bank, just so he could visit around with his friends. Keith loved to travel with his wife, and together they enjoyed many trips across the states and several countries around the world. A lot of trips were combined with Dixieland jazz concerts and band followings, as well as family visits. He invested in Blue Bird motorhomes and aptly named his coach, “Bittersweet,” because traveling away from home is always both bitter and sweet. Across the nation and into Canada, he and Elizabeth went to many Blue Bird rallies and, of course, made lots of friends along the way. He knew roads and routes by memory, and his atlas pages were well worn and highlighted. If you were going somewhere, he knew the way and would tell you exactly which road to take, what you’d see along the way, who lived nearby, and where to fuel up or get a bite to eat. After many years of work, raising their family, and traveling the world, Keith and Elizabeth found their way to Country Bible Church in Brenham, Texas, where they faithfully attended three times a week for several years. Keith’s thirst for learning more about Jesus and the Bible grew during that time, and his faith sustained him throughout the final years of caring for his wife and himself. He and Elizabeth moved to Silversage Assisted Living as two of the first residents, but they lived in separate spaces due to differing levels of needed care. That didn’t stop him from taking care of her, though. He devotedly went to her room every day to sit with her for hours at a time, and worried about her being taken care of until she passed in 2022. As his needs changed, Silversage changed with him. He and his family were extremely grateful for all the staff and caregivers who did their best to serve him daily until he graduated to Heaven. Memorial and burial services are provided by Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. Friends are welcome to pay respects and share memories with the family on Thursday, May 23, from 9:30am until service time, with a chapel service following at 11am. A graveside service will be at Prairie Lea Cemetery with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. Floreen (Peters) Schulze

Floreen (Peters) Schulze, 85, of Brenham, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. Floreen Peters Schulze, was born September 29, 1938 in Kuykendall Community of Washington County to Albert Louis and Annie (Dreyer) Peters. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran of Wiedeville. On February 26, 1956, she married Herbert C. Schulze, Jr. also at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville. Herbert and Floreen lived a short time in Houston but later settled in the Phillipsburg area to raise their four children. Shortly after, they became members of St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem where Floreen remained a member. Floreen committed tireless hours over the course of 30 years to Blue Bell Creameries. She was dedicated to her craft and to serving her community through her marvelous work. She was always willing to lend a helping hand in any way possible. Floreen was the embodiment of tenacity and perseverance within the workplace, community, and her home. Floreen loved her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She loved watching the Houston Astros and visiting with her family. Floreen was an excellent cook and was known for her exceptional sweet tea and dill pickles. She was a light in the room, and she always shared a contagious laugh. She was a beacon of hope during the hardships and made everyone feel like they always had a place in her heart and her home. She and her sisters were always quick to get together and would spend hours laughing at the old times they spent together. Kenney L. Mueller

Kenney L. Mueller, 93, died May 14, 2024, in Brenham, TX. Kenney was born September 21, 1930, in Latium, Texas to Kenney and Emily Ackermann Mueller. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He attended Burton High School. Kenney was inducted into the Army in February 1952 and served in the Korean War. He was awarded a bronze star and received an honorable discharge in June 1953. He then served in the Army Reserves for an additional 5 years. While on a two-week military leave, Kenney returned home and married Lynette Ehrigson on October 25, 1952, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham, TX. A marriage that would last 65 years. Kenney and Lynette moved to Houston in 1954 where they began working and raising their family. He was employed as a salesman for Dentler Potato Chips. He later would start his own distributorship. After 30 years in Houston, they would return to Latium to live on the family farm. Kenney stayed busy with multiple projects. He was a member of Harmonie Hall in Shelby, TX and served as president of the hall from 1990-1998. He was a member of the American Legion Post 602, Shelby Volunteer Fire Department, Latium-Greenvine-Wesley Fire Department and Sons of Hermann. His favorite past time was working on his farm and raising cattle. He is preceded in death by his wife Lynette, parents Kenney and Emily Mueller and brothers Leo Mueller and Daniel Mueller. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Darrell and Betty Mueller, Donald and Tawana Mueller, daughters Patricia Martin, and Laura Russell and husband John. Grandchildren: Marisa, James, Megan, Matthew, Ryan, Derek, Jason, Kailey and Jacob along with 15 great grandchildren. William "Jerry" Haack, Sr.

William “Jerry” Haack, Sr. passed away Friday, May 10, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife and three children. Jerry was born July 24, 1941 in Brenham, Texas to William and Mildred Haack. After high school he joined the US Army serving 6 years during the Vietnam War as a Medic. During his service with the US Army, he earned his way up to Sergeant First Class. He met the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Patricia Myers, at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas and married her 4 days later on December 24, 1963. After being honorably discharged from the US Army on November 21, 1966 they moved back to Brenham where he started his dream career with the Brenham Fire Department. After 29 years of service, he retired as Deputy Chief Haack. During his time with BFD he served many years as a Training Officer, EMS Responder and the Emergency Management Coordinator for Washington County. Jerry also volunteered with Gayhill/Mound Hill/Cedar Hill VFD. As with most firemen, he had a side job at Brenham Memorial Chapel which became a full-time position after retiring from the Fire Service in 1995. He continued to work with his lifelong friend, Andy Anderson until retiring from Brenham Memorial Chapel in 2015. Jerry had a true servant's heart and a love for his family that was immeasurable. He taught his children to be strong, hardworking, caring, loving and loyal servants. He adored his two sisters, Barbara June and Judy Kay and took his family to Texas City to spend many weekends with their families. Just a few of the hobbies he enjoyed over the years were ham radio, fishing, crabbing, camping, building kites, flying RC planes, running model trains, DIY projects and cooking his famous gumbo. He is preceded in death by: his parents William and Mildred Haack and son-in-law Allen Huelsebusch. Alvin J. Free

Alvin J. Free, 95, former resident of Brenham, passed away on May 9, 2024, in Bryan, Texas. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 14^th at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville with visitation prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Alvin was born on August 5, 1928 to Alvin Joseph and Myrtle Schleider Free in Brenham, Texas. He was baptized on February 5, 1931 and confirmed on August 5, 1952, at First Lutheran Church of Pasadena, Texas. He was united in marriage to Ruth H. Wehrman on March 5, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville. After being married, Alvin and Ruth moved to Pasadena, Texas and lived there for 33 years. Upon retirement in 1982 they moved back to Brenham. They resided there until October 2018 at which time they moved to the Isle at Watercrest in Bryan. Alvin was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was also a member of Shell Retirees, Sons of Hermann, American Legion and Bluebonnet Club. He enjoyed spending leisure time gardening and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and sisters Dorothy Miller and Patsy Free. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Judy Free; grandchildren, Misty and husband, Mark Stevens; Sean and wife, Sarah Weathers; Kandis and husband, Mike Burden; great-grandchildren Sydne Stevens, Austin Stevens, Kynlee Stevens, Weston and Alyssia Weathers, Wyatt and Rachael Weathers, Cash Burden and Braylee Burden; and great-great-grandchildren, Waylon Weathers and Lilah Weathers. Pallbearers will be Mike Burden, Cliff Miller, Wyatt Weathers, Weston Weathers, Austin Stevens, Mark Stevens and Sean Weathers. Honorary pallbearers will be Valgene Horak and Robert Mantey. Nora Belle Holleway

Nora Belle Holleway, age 83, of Columbus passed away peacefully at home May 7, 2024. Nora was a small business owner, loving wife of 56 years and mother of three. Nora was born in Liberty Hill, TX in 1941 and was the youngest daughter of 12 children. Nora AKA “Aunt Spook” as her family called her, worked at a meat packing facility in Sweetwater, TX in her early years. Nora met her husband of 56 years as she went on a coffee run during a break at work and he whistled at her as she crossed the street. The two were formally introduced a few days later by her sister Ann. Nora would often reminisce about riding in Dave’s convertible around Sweetwater. Like her husband, Nora was drawn to a life of service working for the Washington County Tax Office, and later an active associate in the Liberty Hill City Council, all while running her small business “Liberty Hill Feed and Seed” and “Farkleberry’s”. Nora was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Claude Johns and Fannie Belle Johns, and husband George David “Dave” Holleway Jr, and brothers William ”Bill” Johns, Ervin “Buddy” Johns, Elmer Johns, Johnny Johns, James Johns, Raymond Johns, Clarence Johns, and sisters Lestel “Sis”, Ethel “Ann”, Etta “Rene”, and Edna “Bonnie”. She is survived by her children, Donna Richardson and husband David, Jeanne Holleway, and George D. “Trey” Holleway III and wife Laurie. She leaves behind grandsons Jimmy and wife Mary, Jonathan Sr. and wife Djona, Joe and wife Ellen, George and wife Paola, and Charles. She leaves behind granddaughters Megan and husband J.R., Alex and husband Justin, Maggie and husband Oliver, and Shanta. She has six great grandsons Brody, Billy, Clay, Jonathan Jr., Kash, and Jarrell Jr., and ten great granddaughters Ella, Kascey, MacKenzie and fiancé JD Boecker, Brooklin, Kaelin, Colbie, Savie, Ellie, Lucy, Millie, and another on the way. Helen (Lange) Gaskamp, 93, passed away on May 8, 2024 in Brenham, TX. Visitation will be from 5:00p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 10,2024 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Ronald Dean “Rip” Rippenhagen, age 64 of LaGrange, passed away May 4, 2024 at his home. Ronald was born November 20, 1959 in Brenham, TX to Robert Jr. and Gloria (Demuth) Rippenhagen. He was a graduate of Brenham High School. Ronald married Sandra SoRelle January 5, 1985 in Greenvine, TX. Ronald made a living as a transport driver where he was employed with Circle K Construction. He loved to fish and sing. Robert had a compassionate heart for helping others. Ronald was preceded in death by his mother. Hattie (Wisnowski) Ogodowicz

Our beloved mother and neenaw, Hattie (Wisnowski) Ogrodowicz, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2024 with her family by her side. Hattie was born November 14, 1932 to Ignacious and Martha (Kubeczka) Wisnowski in Chappell Hill, Texas. Hattie married Clement Ogrodowicz on June 6, 1953 in Chappell Hill, Texas by Father John Weslock. Hattie was the heart of our home and family. She cherished her family dearly. To know her was to love her. She was known as “Neenaw” by family and friends. She led by example and lived by faith. She was known for her great cooking and baking, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. It was her passion to garden and she had a knack for making anything grow. Hattie is preceded in death by husband; parents; son Norbert Ogrodowicz; siblings Louise Ogrodowicz, Clarence Wisnowski and numerous nieces and nephews. Cecelia Victoria (Malinowski) Wright, 92, of Brenham passed away Monday, April 29, 2024. Mrs. Wright was born March 15, 1932 in Brenham, TX to John and Victoria (Kaliszewski) Malinowski. Cecelia and her husband were the owners of Wright Locksmith of Brenham. She worked in the business for 50 years. Cecelia loved Lady Bugs! She had a collection of pins and stuffed animals representing Lady Bugs, with her favorite color being red. Cecelia also loved playing cards and would often take trips to the casinos. During her younger years, she enjoyed going fishing with her husband. She talked about picking cotton when she was very young with her parents, but could never quite pick the 100lbs that was asked of her. Cecilia enjoyed listening to original country and polka music. Cecelia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and son John. David Garcia Robles

David Garcia Robles, 76, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in Woodlands, TX. He was born on August 24, 1947, in Victoria, TX to Riley and Candelaria (Garcia) Robles. He graduated from Victoria High School in 1966 and joined the United States Marines. David was honorably discharged on August 1, 1972. While in the service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Metal 1, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device and a Rifle Sharpshooter Badge (M-14). He married Rosie (Riojas) Robles on June 6, 1970, in Victoria, TX. To this union formed a loving and caring family who he was proud to call his own. After leaving the Marines, David worked as a carpenter in Houston and the surrounding areas until he retired. David touched everyone with his generosity and humor. He was always willing to buy a meal and share a laugh. He loved playing pool with anyone who challenged him, while the music was playing in the background. David was a huge Astros fan from their inception and rarely missed a game. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers, Adolph Robles, Albert Robles, Gilbert Robles, Paul Robles, Ruben Robles, Aniseto Carbajal and sister Janie Garcia. David is survived by his children, Randall Guerra, Tracy Robles; daughter Michelle King; grandchildren Lauren Guerra, Jordan Schaefer, Theodore “Ted” Robles, and Mila King. Marvin Swaringim

Marvin was born on June 2, 1934, in Flat River, Missouri, to Marvin Adonis Swaringim and Hazel Fay Swaringim. He was the oldest of 6 children. Marvin H. (Buddy) Swaringim, an ordained Baptist Deacon who loved to serve the Lord and sing praises to His name. He was an avid agitator and loved to read humorous books and dance with his beautiful wife, Barbara, his very special Lady. One of Marvin’s sayings was “I am a jack of all trades and a master of none, but I will get it done.” He could scan a blueprint, throw it down, and say “I got it” or look at a job and then go home and draw it out to make it work. Marvin attended college at the University of Illinois and received an Associate’s degree. Also received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Structural Engineering from Brentwick University. He worked in many fields but later became a business owner and settled into the grocery industry. He was a proud veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He was in the Korean War from 1952 to 1956, serving in the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. He earned a silver star and 2 bronze stars among other medals. After his time in the service, he worked as a master machinist and master plumber in the St. Louis area. While holding this job, he met a very special lady, Barbara Goad. They were married on Aug. 18, 1957, and were later blessed with three children. Marvin enjoyed reading and learning but found the greatest pleasure in coaching his son in Little League Baseball. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and adventures with his family. Another favorite interest was music, and he started his own record company, where he recorded more than 100 songs. Marvin is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Brenham; daughters, Brenda McCool and husband, James, of Brenham, and Sherry Hodges and husband, Robert, of Brenham; son, Marvin Scott Swaringim, and wife, Connie, of Bryan; grandchildren, Joshua McCool and wife Alicia, Hannah Hodges, Daniel Hodges and Fiancé Alex, Kyle Swaringim and wife Adri, Leslie Swaringim; great-grandchildren, Cassie McCool and partner Noah, Chloe McCool and partner Alex, and Luca Swaringim. He is also survived by 2 sisters, 1 sister-in-law, and 1 brother-in-law, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He always kept all of his family in his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. The funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Monday April 29^, 2024 at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham.
