Perfect Addiction Movie Review (2024)

A Lot or a Little?

What you will—and won't—find in this movie.

  • Positive Messages

    a little

Promotes perseverance in terms of training for tough goals (like wrestling and boxing) and the importance of forgiveness (particularly when it comes to family -- and yourself), but it mostly focuses on more salacious themes.

  • Positive Role Models

    a little

Sienna is a hard worker, knows her craft, and learns how to forgive and welcome love into her life, but she also makes some negative decisions, such as trying to get back at her ex. Kayden is caring, knows how to show love, and is focused on what it takes to become a great boxer, but he also has some negative qualities, such as pushing people away because of his personal trauma.

  • Diverse Representations

    some

Main characters are mostly people of color, including the two romantic leads (Kiana Madeira is multiracial, with a Portuguese, Irish, First Nations, and Black Canadian background, and Ross Butler is a biracial Singaporean American actor). Manu Bennett, who's of Maori descent, also stars. Many scenes between main character Sienna and her sister, Beth, revolve around Sienna's ex, which means the film doesn't pass the Bechdel test regarding women having relationships and screen time that doesn't revolve around a man. Similarly, Sienna's storyline is primarily about both her ex and her new relationship with Hayden.

  • Violence & Scariness

    some

Fighting/boxing scenes, some quite long, that include kicks, punches, and serious injuries. But nothing gets too bloody. References to death and suicide; hospital scenes.

  • Sex, Romance & Nudity

    a lot

Graphic simulated sex, including implied full-body nudity, bare torsos, implied oral sex, multiple partners, and sexual bondage (wrists are tied). Safe sex is shown, with the crinkle of a condom wrapper in one scene.

  • Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that Perfect Addiction is a racy sports-themed romance based on a steamy Wattpad story. It centers on a young woman skilled in MMA fighting (Kiana Madeira) who trains a struggling boxer (Ross Butler) to take on her ex. Expect several scenes of fairly graphic sex (including partial nudity and implied full nudity), plus strong language ("f--k," "s--t," and more) and intense fights with some serious injuries. While the characters are flawed, they do demonstrate perseverance, and the film is notable for putting people of color in the forefront as romantic leads. What's the Story?

PERFECT ADDICTION brings romantic drama to the boxing ring. Sienna (Kiana Madeira) is a boxer/trainer who falls in love with her first "project," Jax (Matthew Noszka). After Jax cheats on Sienna with her sister, Beth (Bree Winslow), Sienna takes on another emerging fighter, Hayden (Ross Butler), to beat Jax in the ring for revenge. But as she and Hayden build a relationship outside of the ring, Sienna's plans get complicated.
